Festival ’17

Festival ’17 14 September – 1 October

Work by Joseph Toonga, 15 September

Outstanding international film and video artists, cabaret stars, dancers and musicians perform 25 events over 3 weeks this September.

Phenomenal cellist Matthew Sharp will bring the festival to life with a sweep of his bow in the fabulous acoustics of Colchester’s derelict bus depot. A concerto written specially for him will be followed by John Adams and Arvo Pärt, played by the exceptional Festival Ensemble.

Benjamin Grosvenor, Alina Ibragimova, The King’s Singers and Natalie Clein, outstandingly talented youngsters, Syrian kanun player Maya Youssef, choreography by Joseph Toonga and new music by synaesthetic composer Deborah Pritchard and film composer Richard Melkonian.

Show off your local knowledge and potentially win a lot of money with Joshua Sofaer’s Street Hunt.

The festival climaxes in the beautiful church of Stoke by Nayland, with two of the greatest pieces of music ever written: Mahler’s life- affirming 9th symphony and Bach’s great Mass in B minor.
