Saturday 26 June – Dance performance in Castle Park

£0.00

1pm – Castle Park, Colchester ( upper park next to the Castle)

Born to Protest

We are thrilled to present, in co-production with Dance East, a new dance work by choreographer Joseph Toonga, in a free performance in Colchester’s Castle Park.

Born to Protest is a high-octane and virtuoso piece for seven dancers, danced to an eclectic hiphop backing track. It aims to dismantle presumptions about the Black male figure based on intimidation, danger and isolation, revealing instead character traits including fragility, vulnerability and a constant battle to prove oneself.

This event is free but please confirm your attendance. Thank you.

Covid precautions

Following the announcement on Monday 14 June that the lifting of restrictions will be delayed until July, we can confirm that the performance can go ahead, as it takes place in the open air. Despite the situation, we will make the event friendly and welcoming as always, while keeping everyone safe and happy.
