A Night At The Opera

We’ve enticed four absolutely stunning young singers, in demand by the world’s best opera companies, to Stoke by Nayland to perform memorable operatic melodies, duets and ensembles, by Mozart, Verdi, Puccini and many more. Libby Burgess will conjure up a whole symphony orchestra from a beautiful grand piano, and the stirring beautiful music and stories behind each excerpt will be introduced by the musicians.  Those who heard Nika Gorič last year enjoyed one of the most memorable evenings in the festival’s history – make sure you don’t miss this one!

Alison Rose is the winner of the 2015 Maggie Teyte Prize and a 2017 Leonard Ingrams Award. She is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio and is an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music.

Angharad Lyddon is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music. She made her professional debut with English National Opera in 2015 as Kate in Pirates of Penzance, performing the role again in their 2017 revival. In 2019, Angharad sang the role of Sotoprene in ENO’s award-winning production of Akhnaten.

Joseph Doody makes debuts this year with English Touring Opera, Buxton International Festival, and Welsh National Opera. Born in Yorkshire, he studied at Edinburgh University, the Royal College of Music, and the National Opera Studio and has performed with the Dunedin Consort, the BBC Singers, Cappella Nova, and Britten Sinfonia Voices.

Libby Burgess is known for her ‘warm, sensitive pianism’ (The Observer), her musical intelligence, and her generosity of collaborative spirit, taking inspiration from the breadth of outstanding musicians with whom she works across an exceptionally wide repertoire. Libby is highly regarded as a chorus-master, vocal coach, chamber music tutor, writer, adjudicator, and masterclasses leader, and was previously Head of Keyboard at Eton College.

Marcus Farnsworth was awarded first prize in the 2009 Wigmore Hall International Song Competition and the Song Prize at the 2011 Kathleen Ferrier Competition. He studied at Chetham’s School of Music and the University of Manchester and is an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music. He is Founder and Artistic Director of the Southwell Music Festival, and Head of Vocal and Choral Studies at Chetham’s School of Music.
